US President Donald Trump on Friday criticised Norway after he was not chosen for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he should have won the award eight times for the wars he claimed to have settled. Speaking at a rally in Syracuse, he also said he had prevented a war between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan and had saved 50 million lives.

He also took aim at the choice of South African former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay for the award, saying he had never heard of her." The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel peace prize, but didn't. And this is an indelible stain on the country of Norway, and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision," Trump said. He added, "The Nobel peace prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilisation.

Four US presidents have received the Nobel Peace Prize: Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.
