Industries is introducing a new line of missile interceptors that the company says will provide much of the capability of weapons produced by traditional defense contractors but at a fraction of the cost.

Anduril says the Steelfin’s modular design will allow for the swapping of components, including rocket motors and targeting systems, to tailor the weapon for different threats without developing an entirely new missile.

Anduril plans a price roughly one-third that of Lockheed Martin Corp’s Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor (which each cost $4 million), while offering more advanced configurations that it says could perform missions approaching those of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or Thaad, system.

The company is already working under multiple contracts with multiple customers, Brose said, though he declined to identify specific programs.
