France's national Anti Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) has taken over the investigation into the Aubagne school shooting after initial findings suggested a possible link between the 14-year-old suspect and the “True Crime Community” movement, Franceinfo reported.

The suspect is accused of firing several shots at his middle school on Monday, injuring the principal and a teacher.

Initial investigations, including an examination of the minor’s digital devices, point to “probable adherence to the True Crime Community (TCC) movement, as well as the framing of the criminal act carried out at his school within this ideology,” said the PNAT.

The Marseille prosecutor’s office initially opened an investigation into attempted murder following the shooting at the Joseph Lakanal middle school.

The student fired once or twice in a common area on the first floor shortly after 9 am local time (0700GMT), injuring the principal and a teacher who were in the corridor, according to Marseille prosecutor Nicolas Bessone. Both victims were hit in the lower limbs and taken to hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening, according to media reports.
