ALBANY, New York — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani released a social media video Thursday boosting his moderate Democratic ally Gov. Kathy Hochul and blasting her Republican foe Bruce Blakeman.

The Republican’s campaign has sought to tie Hochul to the deeply polarizing Mamdani, who is less popular in the bellwether suburbs than he is in the five boroughs.

“Bruce Blakeman looked at working parents getting universal childcare thanks to Governor Hochul and Mayor Mamdani and decided those parents are ‘lazy,’” Hochul campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said. “He applauded Trump’s rogue ICE agents brutalizing New Yorkers and vowed to cut Medicaid ‘in half.’ The MAGA-red apple doesn’t fall far from Trump’s tree, and this one is rotten to the core.”Blakeman in a statement blamed Mamdani and Hochul for high taxes and utility costs.

That is not childcare, that is a dereliction of a parent’s responsibility to raise their children.”Mamdani’s video for Hochul comes two days after the sole televised debate between the governor and Blakeman. In that forum, Hochul hammered Blakeman for his staunch support for President Donald Trump. By contrast, Blakeman did not mention Mamdani until roughly 45 minutes into the event.
