财政司司长许正宇周四接受《南华早报》独家专访时表示，即将在香港举行的亚太经合组织财政部长会议将展示“中国的声音”在地区稳定中的作用，香港独具优势，能够在充满地缘政治紧张的世界中将地区领导人聚集在一起，进行重要交流。
The coming Apec finance ministers’ meeting in Hong Kong will demonstrate “China’s voice” in regional stability, with the city uniquely placed to bring together regional leaders for important exchanges in a geopolitically charged world, the treasury chief has said.
许正宇表示，亚太经合组织21个成员经济体的财政部长会议之所以重要，是因为在地缘政治紧张的背景下，地区合作正变得至关重要。
In an exclusive interview with the South China Morning Post on Thursday, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu said the timing of the meeting of finance ministers from the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies mattered because regional cooperation was becoming vital due to geopolitical tensions.

Against that backdrop, Hui believed Hong Kong was well placed to host the event – which will be held on October 20 and 21 – and convey two main messages to the Apec members and the world: China’s contribution to regional stability and Hong Kong’s value to the region.

“This conference is timely, as regionalisation takes centre stage in today’s geopolitical environment,” Hui said. “There’s no place like Hong Kong to bring these regional leaders together at the same time to discuss how each region can work more closely.”The finance ministers’ meeting is a precursor to the Apec leaders’ meeting in Shenzhen on November 18 and 19.

2026 is China’s year as Apec host, with several rounds of ministerial meetings already hosted in major mainland cities, including Suzhou and Guangzhou.
许正宇表示：“这是一场中国活动。中国的声音很重要，因为它体现了中国作为国际社会负责任成员的角色，也展现了中国愿意并准备好为地区福祉作出贡献。”
“This is a China event. China’s voice is important in terms of how China is a responsible member of the international community and also willing and ready to contribute to regional well-being,” Hui said.
在北京支持香港承办此次活动的背景下，许正宇表示，特区政府将确保与会代表有机会了解香港在金融服务、可持续发展、金融科技以及数字贸易融资方面的努力。
With Beijing backing Hong Kong to host the event, Hui said the local government would ensure delegates have the opportunity to see the city’s efforts in financial services, sustainability, financial technology, and digital trade finance.
这些展示区与会议设定的四个核心主题相契合：支持家庭的财政政策、数字基础设施融资、普惠金融以及培养年轻金融人才。
These showcase areas align with the four core themes set for the meeting: fiscal policies supporting households, digital infrastructure financing, inclusive finance, and nurturing young financial talent.
许表示，21个经济体的高级代表同时访问香港是罕见的，并补充说，当局将安排与到访部长的双边会议，以在适当时推进共同议程。
Hui said it was rare for senior representatives from 21 economies to visit Hong Kong at the same time, adding that authorities would arrange bilateral meetings with visiting ministers to advance mutual agendas where appropriate.
“许多人把香港视为国际金融中心或商业枢纽。但我相信你们会同意我的看法，我们还有更多可以提供的东西，包括我们的自然景观、深厚的文化遗产、信息技术领域的前沿发展以及其他方面，”许说。
“Many people see Hong Kong as an international financial centre or a commercial hub. But I am sure you agree with me that we have a lot more to offer, including our natural landscape, our deep heritage, our frontier developments in information technology and others,” Hui said.
展览场地将设置侧边展位，展示香港的这些方面，并为代表团及其随行人员安排精心策划的侧边参观路线。
Side exhibition booths will be set up at the venue to showcase these aspects of Hong Kong, alongside curated side tours for delegates and their entourages.

“They will see a broader side of Hong Kong that is relevant to both their work and lives, which will hopefully encourage them to return soon,” he said.

Sources told the SCMP that key local attractions and points of business interest such as The Peak, the Big Buddha on the Ngong Ping plateau and the Science Park technology hub in Pak Shek Kok were on the itineraries. The event is expected to attract about 500 guests.

The SCMP previously reported that expected attendees included Chinese Finance Minister Lan Foan, Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers, South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy Lee Hyoung-il, Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance Jeffrey Siow Chen Siang, and Taiwanese Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun.
