Ripple said it has received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national trust bank, the latest step in its push into traditional finance.
此举使 Ripple 国家信托银行去年 12 月获得的有条件批准正式落地。Ripple 在声明中表示，该银行开业后将被授权管理为公司稳定币 Ripple USD（RLUSD）提供支持的储备资产，并提供受托数字资产托管服务。
The move solidifies conditional approval for Ripple National Trust Bank granted last December. Once open, the bank will be authorized to manage reserves backing the company’s stablecoin Ripple USD, or RLUSD, as well as provide fiduciary digital-asset custody services, Ripple said in a statement.

“For years, we’ve said crypto and banks work better together. Final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank is what that looks like in practice,” Brad Garlinghouse, chief executive officer of Ripple, said in the statement.

In December, the OCC granted preliminary approval for national trust bank charter applications from five crypto firms, including Circle Internet Group Inc., BitGo Inc., Fidelity’s digital assets arm and Paxos.

RLUSD will continue to be issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, Ripple’s New York-regulated trust company. The new bank adds federal oversight, but trust banks come with limitations. Most national trust banks do not take deposits or make loans and are not covered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Launched in December 2024, RLUSD is used across Ripple’s payments infrastructure and as collateral within its brokerage platform Ripple Prime. BNY serves as the stablecoin’s primary reserve custodian. The market value of the tokens in circulation has more than doubled from the start of the year to $2.6 billion, according to CoinGecko data.

The approval comes as crypto firms seek to deepen their relationships with traditional financial institutions and expand into payments, custody and tokenized financial assets. Ripple said it would work with the OCC, the New York Department of Financial Services and other regulators as the bank prepares to start operations.

It also comes after the OCC last week unveiled final rules for implementing the Genius Act, US legislation governing stablecoins that was signed into law last year.
