French police arrested five British men in Dunkirk whom they accused of planning attacks on migrants.

The men were involved in the “ultra-Right movement”, police said after the arrests in northern France on Thursday.

The group had travelled to France on what they called “the battle bus”, and were live-streaming their interactions with migrants on social media with the intent of intimidating those attempting to reach the UK, said local authorities. Police said they found four canisters of tear gas bombs in the group’s possession.

The suspects were detained on suspicion of “participating in a group formed with the aim of planning acts of violence against persons and of carrying category D weapons without legitimate cause”.

One of the arrested men is taken away by police One of the arrested men appears to be Dec Lea, who describes himself as an “activist, nationalist and patriot”.

Writing on social media on Sunday, Mr Lea, who had been released, said he was detained because the French authorities “wanted to stop us documenting the invasion as I believe many boats crossed the Channel whilst we were locked up”. He said was not charged.

On Oct 29, Mr Lea posted a video of his “battle bus”, which had steel wiring fitted over the windows.

The Battle bus is well prepared for Calais. That same day, he filmed a confrontation with some migrants at the port.

Figures show that around 21,000 migrants have made the crossing between the Strait of Pas-de-Calais and England since the start of the year. At least 24 people have died. By comparison, around 41,470 migrants made the crossing to England in 2025.

The number of incidents involving British nationals travelling to northern France with a mission to harass and intimidate migrants has risen over the last year or so.

The Prefect of the Nord department said that the suspects belonged to the same ultra-Right group involved in similar intimidation tactics in December.

In January, French police issued permanent bans on 10 British nationals from the “Raise the Colours” movement, who had travelled to Pas-de-Calais in the north of France in December 2025 with the intent of searching for and destroying small boats.

The ministry of the interior added that the group was “conducting propaganda on the French coast of Nord and Pas-de-Calais, targeting the British public, who are being urged to join the movement to put an end to migration”.

After identifying the suspects, the government issued administrative bans which prohibited the individuals from entering or living in France.

A few weeks after the ban was issued, two British nationals, aged 35 and 53, were arrested in Pas-de-Calais and placed in police custody for live-streaming content that incited hatred and violence on YouTube from French soil. Police said the pair were not from the “Raise the Colours” movement.

In September 2025, four men flying the English flags were also seen verbally and physically assaulting a group of migrants in Grand-Fort-Philippe. According to a migrant aid association, the men told the migrants they were not welcome in England and stole their belongings. The French police opened a preliminary investigation into “aggravated violence”.

Earlier this year, French officials banned an anti-migrant rally called “Overlord” planned in Dover and on the coast of northern France for Jan 24, organised by Daniel Thomas, a British far-Right activist better known as Danny Tommo.

Mr Thomas, a roofer and ally of Tommy Robinson, was charged with criminal damage in September after a live-stream video appeared to show him slashing a dinghy in the Channel with migrants still on board.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Nov 12, before the provisional trial date set for March 1, 2027. He has pleaded not guilty.
