Serbian police arrested Davor Macura, the owner of Alta Banka AD whose license was revoked and offices closed over the weekend, regional broadcaster N1 reported.

The arrest comes after Serbia’s central bank revoked the operating license for Alta Banka, part of the closely held Alta Group, due to perceived deterioration of its financial position. The move came just days after general elections brought a seismic power shift in the Balkan nation.

Also on Monday, the stock exchange said it temporarily suspended Alta’s access to its trading system. The central bank said Serbia’s banking sector is not affected by the collapse of Alta, adding the sector is “well capitalized and highly liquid.”There was no immediate response from police or Alta Group when contacted by Bloomberg News.
