President Trump said Friday that he will not ban exports of diesel after the Group of Seven (G7) major economies announced that they would release fuel from their stocks.

“Europe has a lot of diesel, and they're going to be making a major world contribution, and so are we, and we're not going to be doing the export ban,” Trump told reporters as he prepared to depart the White House for Alabama. “We were never going to do it,” he added of a diesel export ban.

Trump's latest comments come after the G7, which includes the U.S., U.K., Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan, said they would release 100 million barrels of fuel over the course of the next four months, including “a “frontloaded substantial diesel release within the first 20 days.” Diesel, which is particularly important for industries like farming and trucking, was averaging $6.37 per gallon in the U.S. on Friday, according to AAA.
