A person was shot during an encounter involving federal law enforcement agents in Marble Hill on Thursday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

The shooting occurred around 4 p.m., police said. The person who was shot was conscious and receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital as of 5:24 p.m., according to the department.

The NYPD said its officers were not involved in the shooting and were not at the scene when it happened.

It was not immediately clear whether Thursday's shooting was connected to that activity.

Sanchez, who represents the area, said the shooting occurred near the location where ICE agents have reportedly been staging.

Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition, called for an investigation into the shooting and the release of body camera footage.
