The EU executive warned on Monday, October 12, that massive cuts to the bloc's next long-term budget risked "undermining critical priorities" after the latest proposal suggested slashing the budget by €141 billion. Ireland, which holds the EU's rotating presidency, published the latest proposal on Saturday with member states deeply divided over the size of the 2028-2034 budget they hope to agree by Christmas.

"We have more and more things to do at the European level. We have an ever increasing number of crises and unforeseen situations to deal with collectively," Ujvari added.
