During his latest appearance on Fox News this week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton tried to make the case for his Republican candidacy for the Senate. “You can look at my record,” the candidate said . “You can look at what I’ve done over the last 12 years.”

That’s true: People can look at his record, though I’m not sure Paxton should welcome the scrutiny.

By any fair measure, Paxton is the most scandal-plagued competitive Senate candidate in at least a generation. The Texan was impeached by members of his party over alleged bribery, abuse of power and obstruction of justice. Paxton’s own senior staffers reported him to the FBI over corruption allegations. He was even indicted on securities fraud charges , though the charges were later dropped after he paid $300,000 in restitution and completed community service.

And that’s just his professional life. The scandals deepen when one considers his incredibly messy personal life .

It’s not just Democrats who have noticed. Earlier this year, Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana said that Paxton “could reasonably be indicted for a felony,” and Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina added , “To call Paxton ethically challenged is to call Jeffrey Dahmer suffering from an eating disorder.”

Making matters worse is the fact that the damaging revelations aren’t done. The Wall Street Journal reported on “a previously unreported New Year’s Eve 2024 celebration where Paxton partied in Dubai with two fugitives from U.S. justice and a woman who wasn’t his wife.”From the article : As fireworks exploded over the Burj Khalifa skyscraper to welcome 2025, Paxton and his girlfriend Tracy Duhon watched from a luxury high-rise balcony full of people, according to a video of the gathering viewed by The Wall Street Journal, details of which were contained in court filings and confirmed by people familiar with the matter.

Among those at the event with Texas’ top law-enforcement official were two Americans who had been indicted months before on federal healthcare-fraud charges but failed to return to the U.S., Anosh Ahmed and Sameer Suhail, according to the court records and people familiar with the matter.

The Journal’s report, which has not been independently verified by MS NOW, added that Ahmed, one of the fugitives, donated $190,000 to Paxton, “including $25,000 days after he was indicted.”Ken Paxton seen partying with two fugitive alleged fraudsters in Dubai.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a candidate for U.S. Senate, received campaign contributions from the staff or political arms of five organizations with interests in legal matters on which his office weighed in. The size of the contributions varied, with money from some firms or members of their staff totaling tens of thousands of dollars, according to state and federal campaign finance records. … Paxton has for years faced allegations of accepting bribes and using the power of his office to help a major donor.

The Post’s report added, “Paxton’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment.”

I can think of senators who have faced brutal scandals, some of which have landed them in prison. But it’s tough to think of anyone racking up a record like Paxton’s before reaching Capitol Hill.
