PG&E Corp. may shut off power to a large swath of its California territory beginning Wednesday evening in a bid to limit the threat of wildfires.

No fire weather watches or warnings are currently posted for the region.

PG&E said the potential shutoffs may affect about 70,000 customers across 29 counties — including Alameda, Napa, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara — from Wednesday evening through Saturday afternoon.

Further south, a fire weather watch has been posted for Los Angeles and Ventura counties and surrounding areas as Santa Ana winds sweep through Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said.

The combination of dry air and wind gusts of as much as 70 miles per hour raises the risk of rapid fire growth, according to the weather service.
