日本经济、贸易和工业大臣赤泽亮正周四称赞了在美国根据两国关税协议选定的第三轮日本资助的美国半导体厂项目。
Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Ryosei Akazawa on Thursday praised the U.S. semiconductor plant project selected for the third round of Japanese funding in the United States under the two countries’ tariff agreement.
该项目“对日本和美国在人工智能时代共同争取竞争优势具有重要意义”，赤泽亮正在新闻发布会上表示。
The project “holds great significance for Japan and the United States to work together to secure a competitive advantage in the age of artificial intelligence,” Akazawa said during a news conference.
去年达成的协议中，日本承诺向美国提供5500亿美元的投资和贷款，以换取美国对来自亚洲国家的进口实施关税削减。
In the agreement concluded last year, Japan pledged to provide the United States with $550 billion in investment and loans in exchange for U.S. tariff cuts for imports from the Asian country.
由美国半导体代工制造商GlobalFoundries牵头的该项目计划在纽约州建设两座新工厂，最高可获210亿美元资助。
Under the project, led by U.S. semiconductor contract manufacturer GlobalFoundries, two new plants are set to be built in the state of New York with funding of up to $21 billion.
日本将通过政府关联金融机构为第一座工厂的建设提供投资、贷款和贷款担保，该工厂涉及约100亿美元的投资。施工工作预计将于今年开始。
Japan will provide investment, loans and loan guarantees through government-affiliated financial institutions for the construction of the first plant, which involves some $10 billion in investment. The construction work is slated to begin this year.
“该项目将增强制造半导体的能力，而半导体在包括AI数据中心在内的各个领域都是必需品，”赤泽亮正表示，并补充称这也将提升两国的经济安全。
“The project will strengthen the capability to manufacture semiconductors, essential in various areas including AI data centers,” Akazawa said, adding that it will also enhance economic security in both countries.
根据日本经济产业省的消息，包括东京电子在内的两家公司预计将提供芯片制造设备，而东京冈本工业将提供零部件和材料。
According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, two companies including Tokyo Electron are expected to supply chip-manufacturing equipment, while Tokyo Ohka Kogyo will provide components and materials.
日本瑞萨电子公司和两家中型企业也将参与其中。瑞萨计划购买在工厂生产的产品。
Japan’s Renesas Electronics Corp. and two midsize companies will also participate. Renesas plans to buy products made at the plants.
“（该项目的）好处也预计将惠及支持供应链的中小企业，”赤泽亮正表示。
“The benefits (of the project) are expected to also reach small and midsize companies that support the supply chain,” Akazawa said.
