The head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom said Thursday that a local ceasefire is being implemented near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to allow repairs at the facility under Moscow’s control.
利哈乔夫在莫斯科对记者称，通过330千伏的费罗斯普拉夫纳亚-1号备用外部输电线路向核电站供电的情况“极不稳定且充满风险”。他指出，由于附近的扎波罗热热电厂已遭到严重破坏，核电站极有可能再次面临供电中断的困境。
Alexey Likhachev told reporters in Moscow that power supply to the ZNPP via the 330kV Ferosplavnaya-1 backup external power line is “extremely unstable and fraught with risks,” noting a “very high probability” of recurring loss of a stable power supply to the plant due to the “semi-destroyed state” of the nearby Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant (ZTPP).

Likhachev said Russia began efforts to arrange a localized ceasefire days ago to facilitate repairs at the ZTPP, and that the plant’s switchgear is essential for ensuring safety and power supply, including for the ZNPP. “By engaging the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and coordinating with our relevant ministries … we have successfully established a ‘regime of silence’ at the ZTPP today,” Likhachev was quoted by Russian media outlets, including state news agency Tass.

He went on to say that Rosatom specialists are heading to the site to begin repairing technical equipment, which he said will help strengthen power supply to the ZNPP.

The situation around the ZNPP, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and one of the world’s 10 largest, remains tense amid persistent concerns about a potential nuclear disaster, as Moscow and Kyiv frequently accuse each other of carrying out attacks around the facility in southeastern Ukraine. Since Sept. 1, 2022, IAEA personnel have been stationed at the plant, which Russia has controlled since March 2022.
