European BEV Sales Surged 70.3% in September to Capture 32.6% Market Share

European battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations jumped 70.3% year-over-year in September 2026, reaching 300,202 units and securing a 32.6% market share across 17 key European markets. According to data released Monday by E-Mobility Europe, New Automotive, and Fier Automotive, year-to-date BEV registrations reached 1.98 million units, up 38.1% compared to 2025. Growth was supported by elevated oil prices, existing subsidies, and cheaper vehicle models, arriving as France and Germany agreed to soften proposed EU auto emissions standards. Regional adoption varied widely, with Norway leading at 98.8% market share, France at 41.7%, and Germany at 34.6%, while Poland and Italy lagged at 6.2% and 7.6%, respectively.
