Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni heads into next year’s election with no plans to broaden her coalition to include the new far-right National Future party, said one of the co-founders of her Brothers of Italy party.
“We have no reason to build coalitions with those who want to send us home,” Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida said in an interview for the Bloomberg and Chora Media podcast Asked whether that includes Roberto Vannacci’s National Future or the centrist group Azione, led by Carlo Calenda he said: “Those who are in opposition now, if citizens so decide, will remain there.”
Both groups have been floated as potential members of Meloni’s next alliance, which is currently composed of her Brothers of Italy, Antonio Tajani’s centrist Forza Italia and Matteo Salvini’s anti-migrant League.

Italy is due to vote by the end of 2027 under a new electoral law proposed by Meloni, which offers a seat bonus to the coalition with a 42% share. The system, designed to enhance the stability of the government in power, is pushing both the right and the left to build up large alliances.
The center-left and the center-right groups were virtually even in an SWG poll published on Oct. 19. If it were to run as a unified group, the left led by the Democratic Party would be slightly ahead of the government coalition, 44.6% to 44%. That reflects how crucial it would be for Meloni to bolster support with a potential alliance.
Vannacci’s party has been slipping in polls and is currently at 5.6%, with Calenda at 3.1% Meloni, Italy’s first female leader and the longest serving premier of a single government, may aim for a general election as soon as April, about six months ahead of the end of her five-year term, Bloomberg has reported. The move would allow her to capitalize on her support in polls, and to avoid drafting a new budget law which may require negotiations with the European Union.
The minister confirmed this option is a possibility, but declined to disclose more details on the timing. “We will vote between spring and autumn,” Lollobrigida said.
