SLB, the world’s biggest oil field services provider, said it has seen a gradual recovery in its Middle East business despite disruptions from the Iran war.

Revenue in the region rose 13% in the third quarter from the prior period despite late-quarter disruptions, SLB said Friday in its earnings statement. The growth reflected a rebound in activity, with improvements in Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the firm said.

SLB, formerly known as Schlumberger, is seen as a bellwether for oil and gas companies, with its global footprint providing an insight into the financial health of the energy sector. That’s especially noteworthy now as the industry wrestles with the impacts of both conflict in the Middle East and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“Energy security and supply shocks continue to drive a quest for international supply diversification, reserve replacement and sustained production — driving a distinct upcycle, despite near-term uncertainty in the Middle East,” Chief Executive Officer Olivier Le Peuch said. “We see a very compelling outlook for 2027, with further upside as Middle East activity recovers.”SLB posted adjusted earnings of 64 cents a share in the quarter, beating the average analyst estimate of 62 cents. Shares of the company rose 0.7% before the start of regular trading in New York.

SLB’s results followed those of rival Halliburton Co., which said on Tuesday that it has seen more business in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as the war in Iran drags on, and predicted higher revenue from the region in the fourth quarter. The region’s oil and gas rig count has risen for the past five months, suggesting supply disruptions may be easing.
