France’s politicians need to “get on and fix” the problems facing their economy, Irish central-bank Governor Gabriel Makhlouf said, ruling out immediate intervention by the European Central Bank to shore up the country’s debt.
Speaking to reporters in Dublin, Makhlouf said the issues facing France are a fiscal problem where the solutions are “pretty well understood.”“Everyone knows what the challenge is and politicians need to get on and fix it,” he said, adding that while he couldn’t speak to the willingness of French politicians to tackle the problems, France has successfully reduced spending in the past, demonstrating the capacity to achieve reductions.
