Paraguay’s central bank intervened Tuesday in Ueno Bank SA as regulators say its solvency consistently fell short of required levels, a move coming just a week after executives rolled out a capitalization plan.

Paraguay Central Bank Governor Carlos Carvallo led Ueno Bank’s predecessor company before taking the top job at the monetary authority. President Santiago Peña had dismissed public concerns about Ueno Bank in recent weeks, accusing media attention of fomenting public fears. Paraguay’s ABC newspaper reported Tuesday morning that Carvallo had already signed his resignation letter.
