Airlines Ltd. became the latest carrier hit by a data breach at one of its main software providers, bringing the global number of bookings compromised by the hack across the industry to over 200,000.
Hackers accessed data on about 46,000 of the company’s flight bookings stored by Amadeus IT Group SA but they didn’t breach Singapore Air’s own systems, the nation’s flag carrier said Wednesday. The incident at Amadeus, which provides crucial software linking more than 100 airlines to ticket sellers, included unauthorized access to customer names and travel itineraries.
Singapore Air joins a growing number airlines, mostly Asian, to disclose breaches recently. Japan Airlines Co. said it had 92,000 bookings accessed, while Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. said 53,000 customer travel plans were illegally accessed. European leisure carrier Condor also said it was breached.
Other airlines affected include ANA Holdings Inc. and Korean Air Lines Co.
