The Russian-US deal on supplying Moscow’s diesel fuel to the American and global markets offers “many other” opportunities for bilateral cooperation, said a senior Russian official on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week, a three-day forum in Moscow, Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev said that his country will continue economic cooperation with the US.

“This involves not only the diesel deal but also many other opportunities for economic and investment cooperation with the US – opportunities that benefit Russia, the United States, and global markets alike,” he said.

He said the lifting of sanctions on Russian diesel fuel had an immediate positive effect on the US, Russia, and global markets, but added that the practical implementation of these supplies will entail “significant challenges.”“However, by working with the US side to address these issues, we are demonstrating our ability to cooperate and achieve results. Diesel fuel will be supplied to the US, and we will overcome all obstacles,” he added.

He accused many of Russia’s “opponents” of trying to derail the diesel deal, adding that Moscow is in constant communication with the US on theg of contracts for the deal, which could be signed in the “coming days.”Last Friday, Trump unveiled a diesel supply agreement following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, under which Moscow agreed to provide fuel to the US and global markets.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the deal as a "gift" to Putin, warning that the easing of restrictions on Russian diesel exports could help finance Moscow's war effort.
