Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) accused close Trump legal ally Mike Davis of “mobilizing death threats” against her and her staff.
Slotkin stated on social media Davis was in the mix to be President Trump’s next Attorney General after former Attorney General Pam Bondi left her posting but “is now at a MAGA dark money group, mobilizing death threats against me and my staff for sport.”“And if you use the justice system for frivolous lawsuits used to intimidate and jail your political opponents, you should be held accountable for that via your bar status. No abuse of power and not violating the law? Then we have no problem,” she continued.
“The threats and intimidation — of me, my staff, and my family — are the point of this kind of play. This dude and so many others are just hoping that we’ll shut up in response,” Slotkin wrote.
The senator has received criticism recently from Trump and other figures on the right over remarks she made at an event at the University of Chicago where she said she wanted young people thinking about working for the Trump administration to think, “lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.”“I want that deterrence message,” she continued.
In response, Davis posted on social platform X that Slotkin “will learn why we have the Second Amendment” if she employed “illegal arrests and political persecutions to intimidate young Americans with opposing political views,” adding in another post, “learn about the Second Amendment, sweetheart.”Trump additionally called Slotkin “a low-life who is running her state” to reporters, accusing Democrats of “really discouraging people from going into politics.”
Davis previously served as chief counsel for nominations to Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) during Trump’s first term, where he cleared the way for the president’s nominees. Since then, Davis grew closer to Trump during the FBI’s raid of the Mar-a-Lago resort when he defended the president in the press.
He also backed the Trump administration’s probe into former Obama-era officials, saying on Fox News, “It doesn’t get more serious than this. This is a criminal conspiracy.”“The evidence is clear there’s a criminal conspiracy here and nobody is above the law,” Davis said.
He now spearheads Article III Project, a group which says it “brings brass knuckles to fight leftist lawfare,” according to its website.
