Turkey’s central bank cut its main interest-rate for the first time since the outbreak of the Iran war, after inflation eased to its slowest pace in almost five years.

The Monetary Policy Committee, led by Governor Fatih Karahan, lowered the one-week repo rate to 36% from 37% on Thursday. All but two of 20 economists surveyed by Bloomberg had forecast a cut of 100 basis points.

Regulators ultimately ordered 131 funds worth about $20 billion into liquidation. Of nearly half a million affected investors, less than 50,000 have so far received payments totaling 40.8 billion liras ($822.1 million), Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said this week.

The central bank last cut its repo rate in January. Following the outbreak of the Iran war in February, the monetary authority instituted a de facto rate hike by suspending weekly repo auctions and providing funding instead from its costlier overnight rate, which at the time was 40%. It reverted to its policy rate at the end of August.
