NEW YORK -- Oil prices rose on Friday, with Brent crude touching its highest since late April, after Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia stoked concerns over further disruption to energy supplies from the Middle East, where UAE authorities also reported an oil spill.

Brent crude futures gained $3.18, or 2.81%, to $116.35 a barrel by 2:06 p.m. ET (1806 GMT). Brent's session high of $117.45 was the highest in nearly six months. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $3.50, or 3.52%, to $102.97. Brent was on track to gain 6% this week, and WTI was on track to finish 1.5% higher.

An oil spill from a tanker was detected off the United Arab Emirates coast of Umm Al Quwain, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment said. It did not say what caused the spill, and authorities have not identified the tanker involved.

Clashes between the Houthis and a Saudi-led coalition that backs Yemen's internationally recognized government have raged since the Iran-aligned Houthis pushed towards Bab el-Mandeb Strait last month, a shipping choke point at the mouth of the Red Sea.
