Norway dismissed Donald Trump’s slurs made at a weekend election campaign event, pointing out the US president’s anger over not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize was misplaced.

The slur was quickly rebutted by Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who said Trump “is currently in the midst of an election campaign that perhaps isn’t going very well for his party, and that leads him to say a lot of things.”Trump’s fixation on the Nobel Peace Prize that’s proven elusive has triggered several outbursts from the US president. Last year, he ran an aggressive campaign to receive the award, arguably the most prestigious accolade in global diplomacy.

Speaking in a radio interview with NRK on Monday, Eide said Trump “knows very well that the Nobel Committee is independent.”

Those include investment decisions made by the $2.3 trillion sovereign wealth fund that were denounced by the MAGA camp.
