The chief of Crusoe, a data center developer and AI computing supplier that has contracts with firms including Meta Platforms Inc., Oracle Corp. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google, called the recent selloff of so-called neoclouds “overblown” and said rival CoreWeave Inc. has done “some very good deals.”“I do pretty firmly believe that a lot of this angst is overblown and is a bit of an overreaction,” Crusoe Chief Executive Officer Chase Lochmiller said at the Bloomberg Invest conference in Dallas on Tuesday.
“I know CoreWeave has made some very good deals,” he said. “They’re in a pretty good position.”The AI computing provider CoreWeave has found itself at the center of intensifying concerns over the resilience of the AI infrastructure boom and the hundreds of billions of dollars being borrowed to finance it. Its bonds plunged to distressed levels this month, and shares of the company have tanked more than 30%.
Founded in 2018, Crusoe is known best for developing big data center projects, including the flagship site of OpenAI and Oracle’s Stargate project in Texas. But the company has also been selling AI cloud computing capacity, joining the burgeoning class of neoclouds like CoreWeave that have emerged to meet soaring AI demand from large enterprises.

Last month, Crusoe raised more than $3 billion in a funding round that valued the startup at roughly $30 billion. The firm has attracted some high-profile investors, including Nvidia Corp. and Salesforce Inc.
For all the cash Crusoe has raised, the upstart itself has drawn skepticism from some technology companies over its ability to get and keep massive and resource-intensive data centers online, people familiar with the situation have told Bloomberg. Earlier this year, Crusoe suffered a different setback in Abilene, Texas. There, Oracle and OpenAI decided not to lease additional capacity from Crusoe, though the space was later taken up by Microsoft Corp.
Lochmiller said Crusoe has continued to see “an overwhelming tidal wave of demand” that is both “deep and broad.”
