NATO’s top military commander, General Alexus Grynkewich, said the US continues to supply Ukraine with Patriot air-defense missiles and weapon packages paid for by European allies.
“Everything has been delivered, in fact, we just had the delivery within the last week,” Grynkewich told reporters in Riga on Friday. “I won’t go into the numbers or types of missiles, but deliveries have been ongoing.”Grynkewich said “nothing that’s been put in the PURL package, that has been paid for by European allies, has been delayed,” referring to the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List, a NATO-led program of US weapon purchases financed by other members of the military alliance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week urged US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to sign deals ordering the transfer of Patriot missiles from third countries to Kyiv. His country needs US-made interceptors urgently to protect energy and civilian infrastructure against escalating Russian ballistic missile strikes.
“Every single third-party transfer that has been requested of the U.S. government has been approved,” Grynkewich said. “We continue to work on the content for future PURL packages. We’re working this hard.”The calls for more missiles follow a feud between Zelenskyy and Donald Trump over the US president’s decision to allow Russia to sell some diesel into global markets to lower prices. The two sides have been trying to ease tensions in recent days and put negotiations to end Moscow’s war back on track.
