Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo and musician Bruce Springsteen have endorsed Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed ahead of Tuesday's US midterm elections in the state of Michigan.

Ruffalo urged voters to support El-Sayed in a campaign video, saying he was proud to stand behind the candidate and urging voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Springsteen endorsed El-Sayed in a social media post that described the Democratic candidate as a defender of the Constitution and democracy.

"That's why I'm in his corner 100%." El-Sayed, 42, is running against Republican candidate Mike Rogers for Michigan's open US Senate seat. He defeated former US Rep. Haley Stevens in the Democratic primary on Aug. 4 and is seeking to become the first Muslim US senator if elected.

The Michigan race is among contests that could help determine control of the narrowly divided Senate.
