The shipment of Arabian crude arrived late last week at the complex in Liaoning Province in northeast China, according to an emailed statement from Aramco on Wednesday. The release didn’t provide an official start date.

“The arrival of the first shipment of Arabian crude marks a major milestone in the development of the project and brings us closer to the start of operations,” Zheng Baoming, general manager and deputy party secretary of North Huajin Chemical Industries Group Corp., said in the statement. The company is one of the project partners, along with Panjin Xincheng Industrial Group Co.

The joint venture is known as HAPCO. The plant is expected to start commercial operations in the first quarter of next year, according to an Oct. 13 note from Energy Aspects.
