The World Health Organization (WHO) said Thursday that 1,282 people had been killed and 5,891 injured in Yemen as a result of the military escalation between Aug. 6 and Oct. 11.

The figures were included in the UN agency’s seventh report on the escalation of the conflict in Yemen, which put the total number of casualties during the period at 7,173, including those killed and injured.

According to the report, the death toll stood at 1,282, accounting for 17.9% of all casualties, while 5,891 people were injured.

The report also recorded 2,007 additional casualties between Oct. 3 and 11, including 323 deaths and 1,684 injuries. The daily average rose to around 223 people killed or injured, up from 114 in the preceding period, according to the report.

The escalation comes amid the Dawn of Yemen military operation launched by Yemen’s internationally recognized government earlier this month to retake Houthi-held areas, including the national capital, Sanaa.
