Students travelling from cities across Serbia staged a final large rally in Belgrade on the eve of this weekend's snap parliamentary elections. Thousands packed the capital's squares, arriving with music and waving flags after overnight bus journeys from towns across the country.

The gathering was among the largest yet in a months-long student-led movement that has repeatedly called for the government's resignation and organised similar marches in other cities earlier this year. Participants again used the rally to demand that the vote be held in a fully transparent and genuinely fair manner.

Government officials have insisted the election process will be conducted properly and in line with electoral law, while opposition figures described the turnout as a sign of mounting pressure on the ruling authorities. The results of the vote are expected this coming weekend.
