In front of students at Tel Aviv University, Gadi Eisenkot received a warm ovation on Sunday, October 18, as the leading candidates in the upcoming elections, scheduled for October 27, took the stage in the final days of a grueling campaign. With a deep, steady voice, the Yashar! leader, heading the main opposition party, addressed the audience without theatrics or emotional appeals, repeating his commitments somewhat mechanically but methodically.
“这是建国以来最关键的选举。必须追问的问题是：民众想要什么样的领导？是想要本-格维尔、斯莫特里奇和内塔尼亚胡的领导——他们在10月7日彻底失败——还是想要一个提供诚实政府的不同领导？”这位前总参谋长发问。
"These elections are the most critical since the establishment of the state. And the question that must be asked is: What kind of leadership do people want? Do they want the leadership of Ben-Gvir, Smotrich and Netanyahu, who failed miserably on October 7? Or do they want a different leadership that offers an honest government?" the former chief of the General Staff asked.

When Eisenkot, now 66, founded Yashar! ("straight" or "integrity" in Hebrew) in September 2025 with just a handful of supporters, it was a bold bet. The media and political establishment received the move politely, though without much enthusiasm. The former senior officer was elected as an MP in 2022 on the list headed by Benny Gantz, another former chief of the General Staff. But it would be fair to say he did not make a major impact in the Knesset, except for several contributions on the army and military doctrine – the topic that has always been his main interest.
