The ruling was issued by Alexandre de Moraes, a supreme court justice who oversaw the trial of Mr Bolsonaro’s father, Jair Bolsonaro. The former president was found guilty of attempting a coup and plotting to assassinate Lula in 2022.

Lula da Silva celebrates his election victory in Sao Paulo On Monday night, Mr Bolsonaro’s party issued a statement acknowledging the election result, which he had previously called to be annulled.
