You can always tell when a Democratic campaign is coming to a close. There seems to be an abiding sense of watchfulness, a nostalgic smell in the air. And as was the case in 2022 and 2024, former US president Barack Obama was on the campaign trail energizing crowds across the country. On Wednesday, October 28, six days before the midterms, Obama wrapped up his tour in southern Atlanta, speaking to a packed and buzzing hall.

Both are athletic, with fitted shirts, rolled up sleeves and hands that grip the lectern as they orate. Both have an impressive command of language, expertly building tension and varying delivery. Both know how to engage a crowd. It was Obama himself who drew these connections as he urged voters to support Ossoff.
