More than 666,000 people have signed an online petition urging House Democrats to vote against Hakeem Jeffries for speaker of the US House of Representatives when the new Congress convenes in January 2027.
该请愿书于9月3日由妮科尔·惠蒂德在Change.org网站发起，呼吁即将组建的第120届国会每一位成员拒绝现任众议院民主党领袖杰弗里斯，另选他人。
The petition, launched on Change.org on Sept. 3 by Nicole Whitted, calls on every member of the incoming 120th Congress to reject Jeffries, the current House Democratic leader, and choose a different candidate.

"Democrats deserve a choice," the petition said, calling for a competitive election for speaker.

Arguing that the speaker should represent Democratic voters rather than the party establishment, it urged lawmakers to examine Jeffries' public record, policy positions, campaign donor record, and leadership before casting vote.

The petition also encouraged other Democratic members of the House to step forward and seek the nomination, saying the outcome is not yet settled. So far, 666,025 people have signed the petition.
