Group Corp. led declines in Asian dollar bonds on Friday as a deepening rout in artificial-intelligence stocks extended into credit markets.
The Japanese technology investor’s dollar bond due in 2032 fell 0.9 cents on Friday, its biggest drop in 10 weeks, according to Bloomberg-compiled data. Its notes were among the biggest losers in Asia and its shares fell as much as 16%, and followed a blowout in credit default swaps tied to some US companies behind the AI buildout. Yield premiums on Asian dollar bonds widened at least 3 basis points, traders said.
Friday’s losses extend a repricing already underway in the global credit market where a borrowing binge fueled by the AI boom has pushed up yields. The rout adds to headwinds facing the world economy, which had been bolstered by AI-related spending this year, as mounting fiscal deficits, higher oil prices and rising inflation sour consumer sentiment.
The average spread on investment-grade Asian dollar bonds reached 73 basis points on Thursday, the widest since July 2025.
Still, the selloff has been tamer than in equities, while lower US Treasury yields are cushioning the impact for investors focused on overall yields, according to CreditSights analyst Zerlina Zeng.
“The selloff in the US and Asia market has been measured,” Zeng said. “We have already seen decent investor interest in bottom-fishing some Asia high-yield names given the sharp selloff in October, including performing China property credits.”The question now is whether mounting stress among companies tied to the AI investment boom will drive a more sustained repricing in Asian credit. The US stock-market rout on Thursday erased $2.3 trillion in market value, while credit-default swaps on CoreWeave, SpaceX and Broadcom jumped to record highs. Dutch bank ING is also putting up for sale a roughly $500 million portfolio of data-center loans.

Investors are increasingly looking beyond the immediate selloff to how those risks may shape credit markets in 2027. Zeng said she has been fielding calls from investors assessing the implications of the US midterm results on tariffs, AI investment, the Iran war and Treasury supply.
“Debt supply is still front and center in AI adjacent sectors,” Zeng said. The Democratic sweep, heavy issuance from hyperscalers since last week and negative headlines around Oracle’s New Mexico data-center permits are pressuring spreads, she said.
Still, the selloff looks more like a repricing of a crowded trade than the collapse of the AI investment cycle, according to Invesco Chief Global Market Strategist Brian Levitt. “The AI build may become slower and more disciplined from here,” Levitt said. “The long-term demand for AI and compute remains intact. The price investors are being asked to pay for that opportunity is simply being reset.”Investors had already begun pulling back from debt financing the AI expansion before the latest volatility.
Hedge funds have been heavy sellers of such debt in recent weeks, RBC Global Asset Management’s Andrzej Skiba said in a Bloomberg Television interview on Thursday, raising the risk that a prolonged repricing of AI-related debt could sp
