President Emmanuel Macron said he would overhaul the country’s university admissions platform during his first meeting with representatives of high school students who have been protesting for weeks, Agence France-Presse reported.
Scrapping or replacing the computerized admissions system, known as Parcoursup, has been a key demand of students who have been blocking entrances to high schools. They’re also calling for more resources for teachers and improved schools.
Student representatives described Macron as attentive in the three-hour meeting, indicating he promised a reform of school democracy as well as the Parcoursup revamp, according to AFP. Still, they intend to keep mobilizing to maintain pressure, AFP said. The representatives are scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Monday.
