The manufacturer has started exporting Chinese VW and Jetta models to what it calls the Global South, including to markets in the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia. Volkswagen will expand exports to Mexico, Egypt and Vietnam by the end of this year, it said.

It’s unclear if the new software can turn things around in China. Volkswagen’s sales there slumped 39% in the third quarter despite offering new Audi and VW models co-developed with local manufacturers SAIC Motor Corp. and Xpeng Inc.

Volkswagen is also partnering with Horizon Robotics on software in China, and in the US with Rivian Automotive Inc. The Vega stack has been developed in-house, it said.
