Sen. Mitch McConnell is spot-on with his analysis of the situation in Ukraine (“Coddling Putin Won’t Bring Peace to Ukraine,” op-ed, Oct. 26). Vladimir Putin, in his barbaric quest to satisfy a dream, has managed to have approximately half a million of his own soldiers and countless more wounded. Even more important are the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian casualties—military and civilian.

Many Americans agree with Sen McConnell. We simply don’t understand how President Trump and others in the White House believe they can deter Mr. Putin. Perhaps someday his own people will have the courage to have him removed. Until that happens, Mr. Putin will remain a serious threat to several other nearby countries.
