Alaska voters will head to the polls to choose their lone U.S. representative on Tuesday, with incumbent Rep. Nick Begich (R) seeking reelection after he defeated former Rep. Mary Peltola (D), who is currently running for U.S. Senate, in 2024. The state's ranked-choice voting system means that four candidates will appear on Alaskans' ballots: Begich, independent Bill Hill, Democrat Eric Hafner and Libertarian Jim McDermott.
In the primary, Begich received nearly 45 percent of the vote, with Hill as the next closest vote-getter at nearly 33 percent. Hafner received about 3 percent and McDermott received 1 percent, with multiple Democratic and Republican candidates who received higher vote totals dropping out following the primary. Although he's an independent, Hill has been backed by the Alaska Democratic Party and House Democrats' campaign arm.
Polls close at 12 a.m. EST.
