Ryan Mackenzie, a first-term congressman weighed down by anger over the high cost of living and President Trump’s declining popularity in the eastern Pennsylvania swing district, the Associated Press said.

Brooks, a former Bethlehem, Pa., firefighter who heads the state firefighters union, said he understood the struggles of working-class voters facing higher prices for gas, groceries, heating oil and housing in the district, which includes Allentown. As the owner of a lawn-care business, Brooks said he avoided filling up his diesel trucks whenever possible.
