German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on Tuesday criticized the election of an Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician as president of the state parliament in Saxony-Anhalt, describing the vote as an "unique reach of taboo in parliamentary democracy." Tobias Rausch of the AfD party was elected president of the state parliament in Magdeburg, becoming the first AfD politician to head a German state legislature.
