Saudi Arabia executed two Bangladeshi citizens it had accused of an “indecent act” inside a mosque in Mecca.

The case has caused public anger in Bangladesh and has left its government scrambling for answers because it only learnt about the executions after the fact.
沙特内政部称，一名男子和一名女子于10月14日在麦加地区因违反清真寺的“神圣性”被处死。
According to the Saudi interior ministry, a man and woman were put to death on Oct 14 in the Mecca region for violating the “sanctity” of the mosque.
该部表示，他们是依据伊斯兰教法中的“塔齐尔”（ta’zir）——一种酌情处罚，而非针对犯罪行为的固定刑罚，被判处死刑。内政部称罪行严重，但未提供细节。
The ministry said they had been sentenced under “ta’zir”, a discretionary punishment under Islamic law rather than a fixed penalty for a criminal act. It said the offence had been severe, but did not give details.
一些沙特媒体报道称，两人被指亲吻，而一位孟加拉高级官员对《电讯报》称他们被指控“通奸”。王国方面的说法受到受害者家属的质疑。
Some Saudi media reports said they had been accused of kissing and a senior Bangladeshi official told The Telegraph they had been charged with “adultery”. The kingdom’s account is disputed by both the victims’ families.

In September, Saudi authorities shared a list of around 2,500 prisoners with the Bangladeshi consulate general in Jeddah, The Telegraph understands. The list gave no indication that either had been sentenced to death.

Bangladesh has asked Saudi Arabia for a full account of the case and legal proceedings, but it has yet to respond.
《电讯报》能够确认，被处决的24岁女子名为苏蒂·阿克特（Suety Akter），是孟加拉国唐格尔区米尔扎布尔村的离婚妇女。她于2023年赴沙特工作，曾在麦加的阿尔马贾尔阿拉比集团担任清洁工。
Divorcee of 24 executed The Telegraph can reveal that the woman was Suety Akter, 24, a divorcee from the village of Mirzapur in Bangladesh’s Tangail district. She travelled to Saudi Arabia in 2023 and had worked as a cleaner for the Al Majal Al Arabi Group in Mecca.
她于2023年8月被拘留，但直到一年后才告知家人，最初称是因一次肢体冲突被关押。
She was detained in August 2023 but did not tell her family until a year later, saying at first that she had been held after a physical brawl.

“The family later learned that she had been arrested in connection with a relationship with a young man there,” a local police official in her hometown told The Telegraph. She last spoke to her relatives on Oct 13, the day before she was killed.

“She told them she would return home within the next two and a half months. She was unaware of her execution,” the official said.

The man was named as Nazrul Islam, 22, from Birampur village in Brahmanbaria district, the eldest of four siblings. He was arrested on the same day as Akter.
纳兹鲁尔于2022年11月前往沙特阿拉伯，并在麦加（Mecca）从事清洁工作。他的家人告诉《每日电讯报》（The Telegraph），六个月后他给家人打电话称自己被逮捕了，但并未提供任何详细情况。
He had travelled to Saudi Arabia in November 2022 and also worked as a cleaner in Mecca. His family told The Telegraph that he had called home six months later to say he had been arrested and framed, without giving details.
“我是通过媒体报道才得知我的表弟被处决的消息的。我们以前每周日都会通过电话与他联系。遗憾的是，我们事先并未得到任何关于他被处决的通知，”他的表弟穆罕默德·穆伊努丁·布伊扬（Muhammad Moinuddin Bhuiyan）说。
“I heard about my cousin’s execution through media reports. We used to speak with him over the phone every Sunday. Unfortunately, we were not informed about the execution beforehand,” his cousin Muhammad Moinuddin Bhuiyan said.
穆罕默德·穆伊努丁补充道：“我们对纳兹鲁尔是否犯有通奸罪或其他任何罪行一无所知；无论是纳兹鲁尔本人还是沙特政府，都没有向我们透露任何相关信息。我们要求真相大白、为纳兹鲁尔讨回公道。”纳兹鲁尔的家人还要求沙特方面归还他的遗体并展开调查。
He added: “We don’t know anything about adultery or any such offence. Neither Nazrul nor the Saudi government informed us about it. We want justice.”The family is demanding the return of his body and an investigation.
另一位表弟莫斯塔基姆·布伊扬（Mostakim Bhuiyan）表示，纳兹鲁尔是在“未经家属通知、也没有机会为自己辩护的情况下被处决的”。他说：“我们现在听说纳兹鲁尔被指控犯了‘不端行为’，但沙特方面却拒绝进一步解释具体情况。”这起事件让达卡政府陷入了尴尬的境地。
Another cousin, Mostakim Bhuiyan, said Islam had been executed “without informing them beforehand or allowing him to defend himself”. He said: “We are now hearing that he had committed an ‘indecent act’, but they don’t bother to explain it further.”The case has placed Dhaka in a delicate position.
