UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone condemned Thursday the killing of a Syrian civilian with a disability by Israeli forces in the southern province of Daraa, urging Israel to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement posted on US social media company X, Cordone expressed condolences to the victim’s family.

“I deplore the killing of a young Syrian civilian with a disability by Israeli forces in Jamla, Deraa, in Syria,” he said.

“My deepest condolences to the family. Israel must fully respect Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law,” he added.

The victim, Muath Salama al-Baeer, was shot dead Thursday during an Israeli military incursion into Jamla village in western Daraa province.

A relative told Anadolu that al-Baeer had a hearing disability and was unable to respond to Israeli soldiers’ orders to stop.
