Sweden’s acting prime minister, Ulf Kristersson, got a fresh mandate to try to form a government after Center Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist lost a premiership vote as expected on Tuesday.

Thand Ringqvist was rejected by parliament by 324 votes to 25, clearing the way for Speaker Andreas Norlén to turn to the caretaker prime minister. Kristersson will now be given time to see whether he can find enough support to get a ruling coalition together, more than seven weeks after the general election on Sept. 13.

The drawn-out process reflects the close result of the election, which left Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson’s bloc with 176 seats against 173 for Kristersson and his allies. Andersson has already lost one vote for prime minister, while divisions between the Center and Left parties have complicated her efforts to build a center-left government.
