ISTANBUL (AA) - Sweden’s parliament on Tuesday voted down Center Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist’s bid to become prime minister, with 324 lawmakers voting against her nomination and 25 supporting it, according to Swedish media reports.

All 25 Center Party lawmakers voted in favor of Ringqvist, while the remaining members of parliament voted against her, Expressen reported.

Parliamentary Speaker Andreas Norlen had tasked Ringqvist with exploring the possibility of forming a government involving parties from across the country’s two political blocs.

Following the vote, Norlen assigned Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson to explore the possibility of forming a government.

Ringqvist also confirmed that she had met with Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar and other leaders of the red-green parties. “We have talked about politics,” she said. Expressen had earlier reported the meeting, citing sources.

Dadgostar declined to say whether the four red-green party leaders had held joint talks during the government formation process.

Meanwhile, Moderate Party parliamentary group leader Mattias Karlsson told Expressen that he did not see an opening for the Center Party to join a right-wing government. He said Kristersson would examine possible options during his exploratory assignment.
