Two Israeli soldiers were shot dead on Friday morning at a checkpoint outside Hebron in the occupied West Bank, in an attack carried out by two Palestinian gunmen. Israeli forces subsequently began demolishing several Palestinian-owned buildings in the city.
The Israeli military said the demolished structures were linked to the attackers, though the claim could not be independently verified. Local Palestinian officials said the demolitions had also affected other families in the neighbourhood.
Additional soldiers and police units have been deployed around Hebron as tensions remain high. Officials on both sides said an investigation into the attack was continuing.
