Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat met with officials from at least 11 countries in Istanbul to discuss expanding bilateral trade, with talks ranging from investment opportunities in the United Arab Emirates to the role Turkish contractors could play in Sudan’s reconstruction.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the 42nd Ministerial Meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Bolat said Monday on Turkish social media platform NSosyal that Türkiye shared its export experience during a ministerial session on trade finance. Participants discussed ways to provide exporters in OIC countries with a wider range of financing options. Closer trade ties could help member economies grow as global uncertainty and competition intensify, he said.

Trade targets with UAE, Egypt and Libya Bolat discussed the $40 billion bilateral trade target with UAE Foreign Trade Minister Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, the UAE’s special envoy to Türkiye for economic affairs. The two sides agreed to hold meetings of their joint trade committee and the committee overseeing their economic partnership agreement in Türkiye, with businesses from both countries taking part.

Türkiye and Egypt aim to reach $15 billion in bilateral trade. In separate talks, Bolat and Libya’s economy and trade minister reaffirmed their $5 billion trade target.

In talks with Guinea’s Industry and Trade Minister Aboubacar Kourouma, Bolat discussed projects Turkish firms could undertake under the Simandou 2040 development program. He also spoke with Djibouti’s trade and tourism minister about how Turkish companies could use the country’s logistics links to reach other African markets.

He also reviewed bilateral trade with Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktader and Iran’s Economy and Finance Minister Seyyed Ali Madanizadeh in separate meetings.
